Q&A
My child has never done martial arts before. Can they still start?
Absolutely! No experience is necessary. Many of our students come to us as complete beginners. We start by teaching the basics and fundamentals step-by-step, allowing each student to learn, build confidence, and progress at a comfortable pace.
Do you offer a free trial? How do I get started?
Yes! We offer a 2–3 day free trial so you or your child can experience our classes before making a commitment. Simply call the gym to schedule an appointment, and we’ll let you know our soonest availability.
We recommend arriving about 5 minutes early for your first visit. You’ll complete a waiver, receive a walkthrough of the academy, meet our coaches, and have an opportunity to ask any questions before class begins.
What do I need for my first class?
Just bring comfortable athletic clothing and a water bottle. Sandals or slides are recommended because they’re easy to take on and off. For cleanliness and safety, shoes are never permitted on the mats.
We’ll let you know if any additional equipment or training gear is needed as you continue.
I have a busy schedule. Do I need to train every day? Not at all! We recommend training at least two days per week when possible, but even one consistent day is a great place to start. As your skills develop and training becomes part of your routine, you may naturally decide to attend more often. Don’t wait for your schedule to be perfect—start where you can, stay consistent, and build from there.
What should I look for when choosing a martial arts school for myself or my family?
Look beyond just the classes. You want an academy where you or your child can feel comfortable training long-term.
Structure: Is there an organized curriculum with clear instruction and progression?
Safety: Are students appropriately supervised and paired based on factors such as size, age, and experience? Is safety treated as a priority?
Cleanliness: Are the mats and training areas routinely cleaned and sanitized? Does the entire facility look, smell, and feel clean?
Environment: Are the coaches welcoming and attentive? Do students feel supported, challenged, and comfortable being there?
I’m in my 40s or older and have always wanted to try Jiu-Jitsu or boxing. Am I too old?
Absolutely not! We regularly have adults begin training in their 40s and beyond. You don’t need previous experience or need to already be in great shape to start. At Cage Combat Academy, we emphasize learning proper technique and progressing at your own pace rather than relying solely on speed or strength. You’ll be paired appropriately, and you will never be pressured to live grapple or spar before you feel ready. Leave the ego at the door, come ready to learn, and finally give yourself the opportunity to try something you’ve always wanted to do.
What makes Cage Combat Academy different from other martial arts schools?
We focus on creating a clean, structured, family-friendly environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and excited to come to class. Our programs are built around fundamentals, structure, progression, safety, and quality instruction rather than simply putting students through a workout. Our coaches take the time to teach proper technique, provide feedback, recognize individual progress, and challenge students as their abilities grow.
Whether someone comes to us to build confidence, get in shape, learn self-defense, develop martial arts skills, or eventually compete, our goal is to provide the instruction and support they need to keep progressing while becoming part of a community that feels like a second home.
